Limited to 10 persons with a desire to learn and a commitment to participate. Registration opens Monday, March 29. The workshop is FREE!
Registrants will write a ten minute play in two weeks and have it performed as reader's theater by experienced Sumter Players performers!
The workshop is designed for beginning playwrights, but experienced writers are welcome as well. The emphasis of the workshop is to ensure that each participant has a completed ten-minute play read in the showcase on May 27. All classes will be in the office area on the second floor of the Rylander Theatre and the showcase will be at a local venue to be determined.
The workshop will be led by Hilary Trudell, B.A. Theater (emphasis on playwriting) College of Charleston. Her first ten-minute play, Never Enough, was a finalist at Kennedy Center American College Theater Regional Festival. She has worked at Arena Stage in Washington, DC, where she taught playwriting to 5th through 12th grade students and co-produced Arena's Student Playwrights Project Showcase. Her play, Writer's Block was produced by Madcap Players' Winter Carnival of New Works in 2006. She recently attended a playwrighting intensive led by NYU Playwrighting Department Chair, Garry Garrison.
